FAQ from Google Analytics new features

Posted on | December 17, 2009 | Comments Off

Last month Enrique Quevedo invited us (The Intellignos Team) to present with them the new GA Features to the top Clients in Buenos Aires.

The above mentioned new features are:

- More Goals, up to 20 per profile.

- Engagement Goals (time on site or pageviews per visit).

- Import the GA Goals into the Adwords platform and using the Conversion Optimizer.

- Mobile tracking using a server side snippet.

- Advanced filters for the data tables.

- Multiple custom variables.

- Share advanced segments and custom reports.

- Analytics Intelligence. A forecasting tool that alerts you when something goes out of the expected.

- Customized Alerts.

During the presentation the following question were asked by the attendants:

Q – ¿How can I access to the new features?

A – The new features are being installed in a progressive way by Google. Is not required that users ask for.

Q – ¿How can I setup the Engagement Goals?

A – In a similar way to the current ones. Go the the GA profile you wanted to setup the goal and click Edit goal. Once there you can select the different type of Goal available.

Q – ¿Could the higher number of goals modify the conversions?

A – In case of including new goals in a particular profile of course that the global conversion rate will modify. However the conversion rate of each specific Goal will not be modified.

Q – ¿What is the advantage of adding the GA Goals to the Adwords Account?

A – It will allow using the conversion optimizer to increase the CPA and conversion rate. The other advantage is that now you can optimize the page based on the Engagement as well.

Q – ¿Is the SDK used for Mobile Tracking compatible with the GA tracking code?

A – Is recommended not to use both in parallel since the mobile phones with javascript and cookies allowed will duplicate the request.

Q – ¿Is it possible to measure Mobile Applications using the Snippet?

A – Yes if the application is developed for Android, Iphone and/or Ipod Touch.

Q – ¿In which type of reports are available the Advanced Filters?

A – The advanced filters are available in the data tables of each report.

Q – ¿What should I use the advanced filter for?

A – Advanced filters are useful for generating more relevant reports in a very simple way.

Q – ¿How many custom variables may I use?

A – You can use up to 50.000 variables for each property but you can’t use more than 5 for each single pixel request..

Q – ¿May I share custom reports or advanced segments with a user that has not access to a particular profile?

A – Yes is possible since what you do share is not the segment of the profile but the segment (or report) definition. So that person can use it in any wanted profile.

Q – ¿How does the Intelligence Alert work?

A – Google sends the alert If the increase or drop of any metric is out of the expected levels.

Q – ¿What kind of criteria may I use to create a custom alert?

A – The custom alerts can be setup from both, a particular value or a variation percentage from a particular period.
